| Nuneaton is world famous for its associations with the 19th century author
George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans), one of the leading English authors of
the Victorian era. She was born on a farm just
outside Nuneaton in 1819 and lived in the town for much of her early
life. In fiction, Nuneaton is referred to as "Milby" in 'Scenes
of
Clerical Life' (1858). She used a male pen name, she said, to ensure
that her works were taken seriously. |
